Today, we enter the practical section of Galatians. If you remember, Paul concluded the last chapter stating that we (believers) are the children of promise (4:28). We should anticipate persecution by the children of the devil of the children of God (4:29). There is great enmity between the two dating back to the beginning of Creation (Gen. 4). Also, we will received the full inheritance from God. We have been justified by faith through the grace of God (2:20), rest in God’s eternal covenant and promises, and are in union with Christ and enjoy intimate fellowship with the Father through adoption. However, those adhering to a system of work’s righteousness is enslaved to the law, a debtor to do the whole law, and will be cast out or cast away into hell prepared for the devil and his angels because there is no deliverance outside of Christ (4:30-31). Let’s enter chapter 5 and hear Paul’s charge to how these truths impact our lives. Our text will be Galatians 5:1-12 and we will discuss, “Standing fast in Christian Liberty.” We will discuss three things from this passage: 1)Freedom is the goal of the gospel 2) Freedom is not secured through the works of the law 3) Freedom is worth preserving and protecting.
