The Incomparable Son #2

13

The writer of Hebrews asserts that Jesus is greater than the angels. In fact, His superiority is seen in the name He has inherited. He is the Son. The angels are merely ministering spirits. Jesus is the Son who is equal with the Father. However, the use of Psalm Two reminds us that we are speaking here of the Mediator and His resurrection and exhaltation. He has assended to a glorified position as the Son who inherits all things because of His great redeeming work. In our humanity, Jesus has been given glory and honor as the new Man, the new Son, who is even greater than the angels in glory and honor. The vast significance of this for us is this: Jesus has assumed that position for us as our new Head. When salvation is complete and all that Christ has gotten for us is applied to all the elect, we will be raised to know that position with Him as those who are included in the Son who is Heir of all things. We will inherit with Him that glory and honor He has acheived to bestow upon us. Then, He offers all this as our new Head and the glorified Son on His knees before the Father, and all that was lost in the Fall is regained. He offers the kingdom up to the Father.
