The Righteous Live by Faith- Habakkuk

76

Paul in his great letter to the Romans expounds the righteousness of God in saving his people. Paul quotes this prophet in his statement of the theme of his letter to the Romans.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith." Romans 1:16-17 quoting Habakkuk 2:4.
in Romans 3:21 he explains that "the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe.

Habakkuk, a prophet bears witness to God's righteousness and then furnishes an example of loving by faith in the true God. His prophecy is easily divided into 3 sections.
Chapter 1 The prophets complaint that wickedness and violence fills the land and God needs to do something. Why aren't you putting a stop to this evil of your people the Hebrews blatantly breaking the Mosaic covenant.

God answers- I am doing something. Something you would never imagine I am sending the Babylonians to judge my people and rid the land of their wickedness.

Habakkuk What! How could you? These people are the worst of the worst. How can the holy God use the greater evil to judge your people. I will go on the rooftop and wait for God to answer me. God answered and his answer fill the prophet with dread yet he had confidence in God . His responsive prayers demonstrates living by faith in the holy righteous God who is the God of our salvation.
