Declension and Revival

Malachi was sent to a dispirited and cynical people to remind them of God's love, and to turn them from downcast doubt to believing joy. "I have loved you," God tells his people, and to their doubt he replies by pointing to the wonderful works of his love. And it is this love that is the cure for half-hearted devotion.
