Introduction

• An Ungodly Mindset about Worship and Love (Genesis 4:5; Leviticus 10:1-3; John 4:24)
• Review (Matthew 22:37-39)

I. How do we know that we love other believers in Christ, those who are begotten of God, the children of God? (vs. 2-3)

A. Obedience to God’s Commandments by faith and with a love that flows from the Love of God implanted in the heart of all who begotten of God (1 John 4:21; John 15:9-10)

B. God’s Commandments are not burdensome (v. 5b; Galatians 3:10; Hebrews 8:10; Psalm 119:45, 103)

II. What assurance do we have that we will be able to obey this commandment of God? (vs. 4-5)

• The world may hinder, but never overcome those who are born of God (John 16:33; Romans 8:29-39; Revelation 12:11)

Conclusion and Application

• Feeling Defeated - our feelings of defeat are because we have put our hope someone or something other than in God, including ourselves, our own strength, our own wisdom, and our plans (Psalm 42:5) – Let our Hope and faith be in God & His Faithfulness
Calvin - “Do we sing songs of triumph to our own strength?” Or, “Do we sing songs of triumph to the might, and power of God in us by the Holy Spirit?”
