Biblical Grounds for Divorce - #5
Series 1689 Confession of Faith
God’s institutions of marriage, the family, and government are under attack as probably never before…
‘(Evangelicals) say God hates divorce because it is so hurtful and traumatic. While this is certainly true, the answer seems to suggest that Scripture, covenants, and children all take a back seat to the hurts of those adults involved. A second, and more relevant answer relates to the fact that those involved in a divorce are covenant breakers… The second reason that God hates divorce… [is because] He… teaches that the husband represents Christ and the wife represents the Church within the context of marriage. Therefore, when a husband and wife get a divorce, they are destroying the picture that God has given to the world as the relationship that He has with His Church. To put it bluntly, many evangelicals are covenant breakers.’ – Dr. Louis Hill, “Seven Foolish Questions”, pp 79-89
