The Oxymoron of Divorce Part 3

84

Divorce is a Biblical Oxymoron

III - Divorce in the NT

a) Jesus’ teaching (Review)

b) Paul’s regulations in 1 Co 7:10-17 (Review)

c) The exception clauses: Immorality & divorce initiated by an unbeliever

Divorce: Questions

Practical Issues:

If marriage were not so seriously insoluble in the eyes of God, the disciples would not have reacted the way they did, when Jesus taught on divorce

Singles: make sure you understand the nature of marriage before falling in love

Married: make sure you understand the nature of marriage before falling “out of love” with your spouse

On prenups: in light of the above, it has no place among believers

To people already divorced: Gospel hope / Christ forgave all of your sins

To people divorced and remarried un-biblically: your sin was nailed to the cross. Enjoy your new marriage. Divorce is not the “unforgivable” sin

Can divorced people serve as officers in the church?

What if I am divorced in a non biblical way, then I came to Christ and my spouse is an unbeliever but has not remarried?

Same as above, but I remarried.

Same as above, but the former spouse remarried.

What if my spouse does not want reconciliation and remains sexually pure?

What if my spouse does not want to reconcile because I am a Christian and wants to divorce?

What if my husband abuses me and the children physically or in other forms?

What if my wife or my husband is a pain?

What if my husband/wife goes to jail for a crime?

What if a Polygamous man comes to Christ? Which wife will he keep?
