Christ the Arrow of God

58 ( 45 | 13 )

The focus of this sermon is twofold: the preparation that Christ underwent to be a Servant of God and the Telos of this preparation: to be a vessel through which God proclaims His majesty, glory, and dominion.
In terms of the former, we are going to consider the process involved in making an arrow (the emphasis of Is. 49:2b, “…He has made me to be a select [sharpened] arrow”). Secondly, the arrow then is placed in a position of readiness (the quiver). Accordingly, as a tool in God's hands Christ was always ready/available for God's purpose and service. So must we be!
In terms of the latter (the Telos), as Christ existed to bring glory to God, so also we have been called. The emphasis here is the culmination of Is. 52:7 (notice how it ends, “…and says to Zion, ‘Your God Reigns!'”). This is God's purpose in and through our lives: this message and proclamation!
