Here are some details on the current state of Orphans across the world taken from the sermon:

"According to UNICEF, there are approximately 145 million orphans in the world. The definition of an orphan is a child that has lost one or both parents to death.

Out of these 145 million children, 15 million are “double” orphans, meaning they do not have any parents. More than 15 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS and 11.6 million of those are in Sub-Sahara Africa.

Now out of this 15 million reported children, there are millions that we don't know about. For instance we do not know the numbers in many middle eastern countries.

We know that 8 million children live in institutional care, in the United States, we make up 1 million of these.

Here in the United States, out of those 1 million, 130,000 are awaiting adoption. That is the yearly average that has been sustained. Out of that number, about 51,000 are adopted which leaves 79,000 each year not adopted. 20,000 a year “age out” of the system, which means they turn 18."
