Offensitivity - What the Bible Says to the Offender and the Offended

Taking offense - being hurt - being too touchy or sensitive - has become a frequently used (and very effective) weapon for many to shape culture and frame conversation.
It is a sin to be deliberately offensive to hurt someone else. But, it is also a sin to take offense where none is given. Love overlooks a multitude of sins.
Finally, though, we must always remember the the Gospel itself is offensive. We can be gracious, loving, patient, and friendly as we tell others about Jesus. The truth remains that the Gospel calls sinners to repentance. People are threatened by this truth. They are offended by it. We must not shrink from proclaiming the Gospel with boldness. But, we must be careful to not add unnecessarily to the offense.
