Only God's Lamb Can Save

Considering the glory that is Christ's sacrifice at Calvary, our minds are drawn to contrast that glory with the glory of the sacrifices that dedicated the altar in Moses' day.

Numbers 7 recites how each prince of each tribe, on his day, offered 21 animals of sacrifice, in addition to gold and silver and meal offerings. This was the most glorious sacrifice ever recorded in the Pentateuch.

And yet, the very next day, more sacrifices had to be offered. No matter how grand an offering was made, it was never enough to atone for the sin of God's people.

In the Scriptures, God Himself is recorded as providing three sacrifices. The first time was the animal slain by God to provide a covering for Adam and Eve's shame.

The second was that lamb provided by God to Abraham to substitute in the place of Isaac and rescue him from death.

The last sacrifice provided by God Himself was the Lord Jesus at Calvary - God's Lamb Who takes away our sin!

No doubt the grand sacrifices of the Princes of Israel were widely remarked upon. But God's sacrifices are scarcely mentioned, except by the ones who are benefited by them.

When Christ began to describe His body and His blood as the sacrifice that gives Life to those who trust in Him, the Jews murmured and complained against it.

The sacrifices most admired by men wrought nothing. The princes who offered them were never allowed inside the Tabernacle, and never through the veil into God's presence.

But Christ's sacrifice forever perfected His people! It never has to be repeated, and nothing needs to be added. Those who are cleansed by it are brought through the veil into God's glorious presence!

Thanks be unto God!
