GROWING UP IN THE SPIRIT: DEALING WITH CARNALITY
1 Corinthians 3:1-9

Believers must act like the “spiritual” men and women that we are (people who have the Holy Spirit).
• We are not “natural” men and women, but “spiritual” (2:12, 15)
• We sometimes do not act like “spiritual” men and women, but “fleshly” (“carnal”) (3:1-4)
o We cannot tolerate mature spiritual “food” (3:1-2)
o We have jealousy and strife (3:3)
o We wrongly understand the nature of Christian leadership (3:4-9)
 We idolize Christian leaders by developing factions (3:4)
 We fail to understand leaders' subordination to God (3:5-8)
 We fail to see God as “in charge” of the growth of His Church (3:9)
