Be On Guard and Continue to Grow

154

Peter closes his second and last letter with two commands that are the responsibility of all believer's individually. Each one must be constantly on guard regarding false teachers, their teaching, lifestyle and influence must be avoided. Evaluating them through the Scriptures will enable the believer to identify them which makes knowing the Scriptures of great necessity. Believers also need to be growing in their knowledge, and with that knowledge be maturing as it is personally applied and put into practice. Such growing in knowledge and maturing in faith and relationship to the Lord is likewise the means to be on guard. Hence these are a very fitting and necessary conclusion to this letter by Peter emphasizing the critical issue for every believer to have a true knowledge of God.
