An Introduction to the Old Testament (4)

In the concluding part of this short series we are led to consider that the primary application is to look for Christ throughout the Old Testament.

From Genesis though to Malachi, there are frequently people, places and things that speak of Jesus Christ. Whether it be men like Adam, Isaac and Joseph, amongst many others, or even the various offerings called for in the Mosaic law, events such as the Passover, the special days like the Day of Atonement, or significant things like the Tabernacle, buildings such as the Temple; in all of these, and others beside, we are able to see, through types and shadows how they represent Jesus Christ to us.

We see in the Old Testament many aspects of the Sovereignty of God, whether it be in creation, God's justice, his holiness, or concerning the grand all-encompassing theme of redemptive history.

In the Old Testament we are also able to learn lessons on aspects of a spiritual life, the life of faith, and the importance of worshiping God in a way that pleases Him.

We are reminded that the true church, converted Jews and Gentiles alike are indeed God's people, children of the promise, and the Israel of God.
