I am the Bread of Life: Part 1

In today's passage, we see the beginning of the Bread of Life discourse, for which the events we have seen in recent weeks have set the stage. We hear today the “crest” of the discourse. The question that the crowd asks shows again that they're missing the point: they're thinking only of physical bread and physical needs. Jesus is calling them to look to Him for the satisfaction of their deep and most ultimate needs, which are spiritual. In this one bold and clear statement of our Lord, He sets forth with unmistakable clarity that He, and He alone, can meet our deepest needs.
