Anthropology - Humanity Fallen Part 3
Series Summary of Systematic Theology
Doctrine of Man VI
Fallen Man 2: The Transmission of Sin
Introduction
Last time we considered that Adam was the representative for all mankind - the federal head of all
humanity; as seen in 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 and Romans 5:12-21. Likewise, Christ became the
representative for all mankind in his perfect life and payment for sin.
Today we continue considering the transmission of Adam's sin to all humanity, that death and
corruption were passed to all. Adam was the best of man - God's creation was perfect, therefore his
corruption was evident for all mankind. This does not excuse anyone from personal sin. All are
condemned due to personal sin. Due to Adam's representing all as sinful, all are therefore born
sinners. We sin because we are sinners - not the other way around!
Humanity Created: - Man Fourfold Stage -
1-Man Created: Man in the garden
2-Fallen Man: Man after sin
3-Man Redeemed: Man forgiven and restored in Christ
4-Man Glorified: Man after death
Transmission of Sin
- From Adam's fall we inherit the guilt of his sin
- In Adam's Fall, we inherit his sinful nature
Conclusion
If we reject Adam's representation in sin, we should reject Christ's in justification. God did
exactly the same in both our relationship to Adam and our relationship to Christ. We are unable to
come to God on our own due to sin; God has to initiate the work of overcoming sin in the individual
in order for them to desire God.
