Confession of Sin

The highest expression of worship is that of bringing every aspect of our life into conformity with His revealed will.

In dealing with the practical aspects we now come to deal with the matter of the confession of sin.

The Scriptures have a lot to say about the necessity for the confession of sin.

(1) No Christian is sinless......

(2) Without the confession of sin there is no communion with God.

(3) God dwells with (manifests His presence to those who are of a contrite spirit.)

(4) Those who do not confess their sins will not prosper in their praying.

(5) Failure to confess sins forfeits the blessing of God.

THERE IS NO PERSON SO MISERABLE AS A CHRISTIAN WHO IS MAINTAINING A CONTROVERSY WITH GOD

There are various problems connected with the confession of sin.

1. The first problem has to do with brokenness.

2. The second problem has to do with the assurance of forgiveness once confession has been made.

3. The third problem has to do with the area of past sins.

Finally we should consider some dangers and abuses in the confession of sin.

(1) First we must realize that we are to be specific in the confession of sin....but not descriptive.

(2) We must avoid morbid introspection. That only leads to despair.

(3) Another abuse which we should mention has to do with the corporate confession of sin.

(4) The last area of concern has to do with being overly scrupulous over the ingredients of confession.
