Be Not Bitter Against Them

The Lord Jesus loved us all the way to the end, even unto the shame and agony of the cross.

Think of the warmth of Christ's love for us, and our coldness toward Him! We do not thank Him as we ought, and we do not show our affection for Him like we ought toward the One Who gave His very life for us!

Our Lord Jesus is away, preparing a place for us in Glory, and we ought to be pining for His return. But we are so preoccupied with material blessings and the things of this world, that we do not care for Him like we should.

Christ's love for the Church is the model for a Christian man's love for his wife, yet no husband ever can match Christ's love!

The preacher has wondered why Paul warned husbands in their love for their wives, not to be bitter against them. Then a common story of marital dispute drove home to him the reason.

A man sacrifices for and loves his wife, who is very dependent upon him. But one day, she finds another man to love, and turns against her husband. She is ungrateful for the love he has shown to her. And so he becomes bitter against her, and the marriage founders.

She sacrifices the marriage and her husband's love for mere trinkets.

No wonder Paul warns against bitterness. A man feels entitled to be bitter when his love is rejected like that.

But Christ's love is neglected by His people, and He never grows bitter against us! We follow after material things, popular leaders in the church, and this present life rather than the Savior.

We are ungrateful, yet He loves us! Instead, He is beautifying His bride, and one day, we will love Him perfectly as He does us, when we see His face!

His Table is a reminder of His love for us!
