Grace on Top of Grace

49

John 1:15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

• The Witness of John (John 1:15)

  1. John bear witness: John 1:7-8, John 1:29-34, John 3:26-36, John 5:33-36
  2. He cometh after me (John 1:15).
  3. He is preferred before me (John 1:15).
  4. He was before me (John 8:58).

John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
John was born before Jesus, yet Jesus in rank or preference is before John. John knows that Jesus' physical birth came after his physical birth, but Jesus is the Creator. With the next verse, this certainly shows the preeminence of Jesus.

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
All men have faith. When you hear some truth about the grace of God, he gives more truth to trust in. If you do not reject the truth He has revealed, He will continue to give more and more truth. Each time a man responds to the truth he has received, there is more truth coming. Each time grace is bestowed upon a man, the more grace that comes.
In this example, those following John will leave off following him and start following Jesus. They will become His disciples.
• Grace leads to more grace
• Faith leads to more faith
• Truth and life lead to truth and life.
A. Having Received His Fullness (John 1:16)

  1. The fullness of the Son
    a. He is full of grace and truth (John 1:14).
