The Purpose of Genesis is to Lead You To:
Trust God’s plans and His gospel promise in Christ.

Outline:

1. Many commentators take it for granted that Genesis is divided into three main divisions beginning with the creation narrative.
2. However, Genesis is actually divided by records of “generations.”
3. This makes the gospel promise of Genesis 3:15 the theme verse of Genesis; note the collective singular (Galatians 3:16).
4. As you observe the “generations,” the emphasis is upon the seed of the woman.
5. In this light, review the generations with relationship to the gospel promise.
6. Yes, you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to promise; trust God’s plans and His gospel promise in Christ (Galatians 3:8, 16, 29).
