Father Abraham: Gospel-Preacher

Aim: To understand that the church today has the same blessings that Abraham has.

Exegesis: Abraham's gospel teaches us that faith is primary. Faith gives us a right standing with God (v. 6) and a right understanding of God: that He is the Lord of the covenant (v. 7), cosmos (v. 8), and church (v. 9). Abraham's gospel teaches us that blood in necessary. Our sin required a blood sacrifice (vv. 10-12); our Savior provided a blood sacrifice (v. 13). Abraham's gospel teaches us that Christ is supreme. His salvation reaches even us (v. 14a) and His Spirit is given to even us (v. 14b).

Key verse: v. 8 ''And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, 'In you all the nations shall be blessed.' ''
