Ruin by the Fall

20

There are three basic Christian teachings: ruin by the Fall; redemption by the blood; and regeneration by the Spirit. Life as we know it is not 'normal'. The world and humanity are not as God made them. We have been ruined by the Fall. The evidence is all around in suffering, wickedness, and death. The fall was an event in which humanity (through one man) rebelled against our Creator. This wrongdoing brought the penalty of death; and death was its inevitable consequence for we lost the Spirit of God and are left only with our animal part that will inevitably die. We have all inherited this spiritual deadness; conseqently we also do wrong and bring God's judgement on ourselves. God's revulsion against sin may lead him to abadon people to their own evil desires; it certainly will result in judgement at the Great Day. We are helpless, unable to make amends or to give ourselves spiritual life. But our text speaks of God's love. Into our situation a second Adam came. God laid our sins on him. He bore our sins in his own body on the tree, and rose again showing that there is now forgiveness. From heaven he gives the Holy spirit so those who are dead in sin may have life, and learn to look to him for salvation. Thus united to Christ they also become sons of God, and will enter with him into the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.
