Common Knowledge About Sin

390

The Bible states that God hates sin and hates the sinner. It is also true that God has made those whom He hates the objects of His love by sending His Son to pay the penalty for the very sin He hates (John 3:16). Those who continue in rejection of God and living in rebellion against Him are full of sin, consumed by sin, and under His wrath.

All people do not commit all of the sins highlighted by the apostle Paul in this section of his letter to the Romans, but all people commit some of them with sins such as gossip, pride, and slander being mentioned in this list. Even what seems to have become acceptable, tolerable and expected by our society remains sin before God. Sadly when the world's attitude about these sins invades the church they gain an even greater foothold of acceptability.

The ravaging effects of sin upon the heart and mind are evidenced all the more by the fact that everyone knows what sin is, what the consequences will be, and yet chose to continue living in it.
