Exodus 68 Chapter 20:1

After a series of trials, victories, and temptations, God now assembles the Hebrews before Him at the foot of Mount Sinai.

This assembling is not a simple casual meeting, for it is accompanied by great fear and trembling, as before a Holy and Righteous God, with thundering and lightning, smoke, fire and the long blast of the deafening trumpet.

It is under these tremendous circumstances that God prepares Israel to hear the Law at His hand through His Lawgiver-Prophet Moses.
