Solomon Becomes a Man of Wisdom

1,125

It is the wisdom of Solomon that made him unique. How Solomon gained that wisdom, upon request from the Lord, is recorded in this chapter. We learn that not only did the Lord give him wisdom, but also great wealth and fame. In response to the Lord's gift, Solomon's heart of worship offers great sacrifices and praise to the Lord. The fact of it being a transition time for the nation of Israel concerning where they worshiped comes to light. They are worshiping on the high places previously used by the Canaanites since the Tabernacle is no longer in use and the Temple not yet built.

Israel realized its greatest splendor during his reign as he undertook great building projects which included Israel's first Temple.

The chapter opens with the most significant of Solomon's political marriages as he entered into an alliance with Egypt. This gives an indication of the recognition of Israel as a power in the region and of the lesser power that Egypt had become at the time.

Observations from this study:

  1. Love for God is evidenced in an obedient action according to His Word.
  2. True love for God delights to give all it can in worship and service.
  3. The lovingkindness of God should be ever before us.
  4. We should bow humbly before the Lord in light of our inadequacies. We cannot do the Lord's work in our own strength.
  5. God provides everything needed and it is always enough.
