Redemption is basically deliverance from some bondage by the payment of a price. The grim fact is that the natural man is a slave of sin condemned to die. As one writer put it, "The aim of redemption in Christ then is to lift men out of death toward life." The same idea is captured in the term "ransom." Our Redeemer purchased our deliverance by offering Himself as the only adequate payment for our redemption. We have literally been bought out of a slave market and gained our freedom in Christ.
