Added

The passage before us documents the results of the first Christian sermon as preached by the Apostle Peter. We have three points concerning these converts:

1. They joyfully received the Lord's Word
2. They were added to the Lord's church
3. They devoted themselves to the Lord's ways

There are four marks of a true church:
a. The apostles' doctrine (teaching)—the soul of the church
b. Fellowship (the sharing of their common union in Christ)—the heart of the church.
c. Breaking of bread (the practical life of the church, living out their spiritual life)—the life of the church.
d. Prayers (the mutual expression of dependence on and seeing of the will of God)—the breath of the church
