Debate: Christians vs. Papists - Bible Only or Bible Plus Roman Traditions & Decrees

324 ( 305 | 19 )

According to Roman Catholicism, "Sacred Tradition" (as determined by them such as Mother Teresa & John Paul II being declared official "saints" & worthy of prayers) and the Bible together provide the foundation of spiritual truth. From this convenient combination the Catholic religion produces many doctrines over the course of time which it claims are true and supposedly Biblical but which Biblical Christians reject. Roman "traditions" include: the exaltation & veneration of Mary as the "Queen of Heaven" & her elevation near the status with the Holy Trinity making her worthy of prayers, supplications, shrines of graven images & gifts (see our YOUTUBE video "APPARITIONS OF MARY: IS THE VIRGIN MARY THE FOURTH PART OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC TRINITY"), penance, indulgences, purgatory instead of heaven, prayer to officially recognized "saints," papal infallibility, a denial of justification by faith alone, their doctrine of ignorance of the Christian Gospel is an excuse to avoid hell, priestly vows of celibacy & on the list goes. Biblical Christianity, however, rejects these doctrines & Roman Catholic "Sacred Tradition," and holds fast to the call "Sola Scriptura," or, "Scripture Alone." Catholics then challenge as the only way to defend all their unBiblical doctrines with "Is Sola Scriptura Biblical?"

Jesus Himself gives the illustration about tradition in Matthew 15:1-14,"1 Then some Pharisees and scribes *came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, 2 "Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." 3 And He answered and said to them.
