A somewhat puzzling passage. The disciples had been given power and authority to cast our demons and heal the sick.

However after Jesus comes back from the Transfiguration, His disciples were not able to cast out this one. It as deaf and dumb. Jesus says that such can only come out with prayer and fasting... and then casts it out.
