Of the Consecration of Priests

43

As we gaze upon the blazing shadows in Leviticus 8 we see not only the consecration of Israel's first high priest and mediator - but the dual picture of a New Testament priesthood.

We see the coming great and eternal high priest, Jesus Christ, washed, anointed, clothed in glorious splendor, and offering himself to atone for and reconcile his people. Hebrews tells us that he forever stands to make intercession for us.

We see also the picture of the consecration of the New Testament priest - not a pastor, or minister - but every believer. In Christ we are washed, anointed by the Holy Spirit, clothed in the righteousness of Christ, justified by his blood and forever brought near to our God.

Just as Aaron and his sons are set aside as holy to the Lord in the Old Testament, so the believer in the New Testament is set aside for God's use and purpose - you are called to be holy - called to be a priest to God.
