1Sam025 No Shortcuts!

122

At times, a shortcut can be a welcome means to save time and accomplish a task more efficiently. But, when it comes to advancing God's Holy Kingdom, no shortcuts are allowed. In this chapter, David is offered an opportunity, by providence, to kill Saul in stealth and put an end to his sufferings and sieze the kingdom which he had been promised. After having taken a stab at Saul's kingdom, David was stabbed in the heart (conscience) and realized that he had no authority to take the life of the Lord's anointed and secure the kingdom through disobedience to the Law. Instead of seeking the Kingdom through disobedience for the sake of personal convenience, David committed his way to the Lord and his word, which meant delaying reception of the kingdom and treading the path of sufferings a bit longer. In this action David not only models the principle of seeking the Kingdom through obedience to Scripture, he also points us to Christ who rejected Satan's kingdom proposal through worshiping him, and instead, sought the kindom through sufferings and through a crown of thorns.
