Why Sinners Are Afraid of Jesus

After Jesus cast out a multitude of demons from the man in Gadara, we read the astonishing statement that the people of Gadara were terribly afraid and asked Jesus to leave their region. Why? What are sinners afraid of? Jesus had exercised great power, but unto mercy. His power was used for good, so why were they so afraid and why did they want Him to leave? It would seem that the bottom line was their love of sin: they loved their swine and lost them. They loved their sin and feared losing more. Power is scary, but holy power is really scary to sinners who do not want to be parted from their lusts.
