Call Your Elders

48

If we're honest, the counsel from Jesus' brother James is foreign to us. James talks about the use of anointing oil for combatting sickness. He references an eccentric prophet whose prayers impacted the weather. Less foreign, but still unfamiliar to our practice is James' command that struggling Christians call for the elders of the church when they are in trouble.

What do we do when we encounter biblical practices and instructions that seem off-pace from our experiences? Instead of dismissing them we need to try to understand them so that, with God's help, we can submit to them by faith in our own day.

Here's our thesis, which if adopted will represent, a culture-shift among us. Struggling Christians should get in the habit of calling their elders for prayer.
