Christ lifted up

Christ comes to the climax of his saving mission. Prompted by the desire of certain Greeks that they might "see Jesus", he speaks of his approaching death as the means of bringing life. He makes a definite declaration: "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all to myself."

Here is a definite focus on his own person, a definite action accomplished in him, and a definite effect that he carries out.
