The Lord of glory

In the face of his impending shameful death, Christ speaks of his return in glory. He answers four questions: When will he come? This is an open-ended certainty. It will come, but we cannot tell at what precise time. Who will come? The Son of Man, one who is entitled to and receives honor, who is humiliated before he is exalted. How will he come? In his glory. The Man of Sorrows, the once despised Jesus, will be revealed in the glory that belongs to him inherently and by virtue of his finished work. What will he do? He will sit on the throne of his glory. Glory is the keynote of his appearing, and this is the moment of the final judgment, when we will either be safe forever with Christ or the curse will fall upon us.
