Melchizedek's priesthood is a type of the priesthood of Christ. He is without genealogy or mother or father. It is also superior to Levi's due to several reasons. One is the receiving of tithes, which predates the law command of tithing. Abraham's actions affect not only himself, but all those descended from him.
