All This I Will Give You, Part 2

142

God the Father offers the Lord Jesus exactly what Satan offered him (Luke 4:5-7; Psalm 2:8). But Satan is a liar, and God cannot lie. God could and did make good on his promise.

Rightly to understand who Jesus is, we must consider that he is both truly and fully God and truly and fully human, as Philippians 2:6-8 makes clear.

In Jesus Christ, God became something he had never been before: God became Man.

God's name is Yahweh and has never been Jesus. When the eternal Son of the eternal God became a man, he was given a new name, Jesus (Philippians 2:9-10).

Romans 1:4 declares that Jesus was "appointed the Son–of–God–in–power by his resurrection from the dead" (NET). This is reflected in Matthew 28:18.

God the Father covenanted with the Lord Jesus Christ, David's son and Lord in Psalm 110:1, "Yahweh says to my Lord" (Matthew 22:41-46).

Psalm 2 spells out the blessings for those who will submit to the Son and the curses for those who will not.
