There is much confusion over the ministry role and function of deacons in the Body of Christ. Join us and let's look at the role of Biblical Deaconship a Ministry of Service. The word Deacon is diakŏnŏs, dee-ak´-on-os; The term deacon has been in use for thousands of years and its meaning is broad and yet simple. This word describes the working of the person who is deaconing. Deacon means servant, to serve, to deacon, or to minister as one who waits on a guest (as a waiter or waitress). Part of the word deacon is the Greek diakō which means to run on errands or to be an attendant. A deacon is one who Supplies food and the necessities of life. Cares for the poor or sick. Oversees the daily upkeep and functioning of a dwelling. Handles the collections of food, clothing, medicines, money, and organizes helps ministries. A Christian Pastor is the chief servant of God, and the church, so technically he is a deacon, minister, servant. Diakŏnia, dee-ak-on-ee´-ah; Describes the Biblical office of the diaconate. Or. The collective body of deacons and deaconesses. Deacons are not an authoritative Body; they are a serving Body. The Board of Deacons is not a Biblical term, because it misrepresents the role and function of the Deaconate, which is to serve the body of Christ, not to rule over it. That is the Elder's calling.
