Justice for the Poor at Last

When we think about the election of our new leaders, and whether or not they will be concerned for justice for the poor and the helpless, our hearts should yearn for the reign of our Lord Jesus, for He will bring justice to the poor at last!

This week, the preacher attended a court hearing that proved to be a travesty of justice. Three young men were re-arrested after the judge had already dismissed the charges against them. No new evidence was presented, but a new judge sent them back to jail to wait three more months on the grand jury to decide their fate.

How much God hates injustice, and how little we hate it. How often we see our friends on Facebook express themselves as oblivious to the demands of justice. Kill them all, and let God sort them out, is the blood lust desire of so many Americans these days.

God's Word condemns injustice and oppression in many places. The sin recited against Israel in Isaiah was, first and foremost, injustice against the poor and helpless. It was, along with innocent blood shedding, Israel's crimson sin. God commanded the people to stand up for the oppressed and ensure that justice was done.

Scriptures exhort rulers to soberly attend to justice for the poor. Indeed, while I was sitting in the court room, I read from Proverbs 29:14: "The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever."

What a glorious explanation for the everlasting reign of Messiah! He will be perfectly faithful in bringing justice to the poor, and His throne will be established forever!

It is the Father Who has and will establish Christ's reign forever, because He is well pleased with the Son's faithfulness!
