The Motivation to Faith Part 1
Series The Supremacy of Christ
Hebrews 4:12
Introduction: technology and religion …
Thesis of chapter 4: an encouragement to persevere in faith by looking at the example of unbelief of Israel, in order to obtain the ultimate goal of God's eternal rest in Christ
The motivation of faith:
a) The all-piercing power of the word of God vs 12
b) The all-knowing eye of God vs 13
c) The all-sympathizing mercy of Christ vs 14-16Dynamic: Living and active sharper than any two edged sword
Discriminating: it penetrates to the inner recesses of one's being 12 … and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow
a) Trichotomy or Dichotomy? That's not the issue… This is a statement about the efficacy of the word of God to cut across and through a person's intellect, emotions, thoughts and valuesDiscerning: it judges thoughts and intentions
CONCLUSION: (ministry of the pew)
More and more I am convinced of our need to be less “word consumerists” and more “word sharers”.
- Commit to read, meditate, think and hear, to profit more from the Word
- Will you commit today to help others profit more from the word?
- Will you commit today to share and talk to others about the word even right after the sermon
- The end in view is nothing none other than Christ
