Watch and Pray

301 ( 222 | 79 )

Prayer is not what happens to sleepy people, according to Jesus. 'Watch and pray' he tells us. The alertness he is encouraging is being awake to God and what he is about in the world. He comes in judgement, but then again, he is present to save us. We are weak, but our Saviour is present to shepherd us. These are the things that need to be in mind when we pray. We may be surrounded by events that cause dismay and fear, but then, our redemption is near. So, we should always pray with our eyes open, metaphorically speaking anyway.
