Practical Aspects of Personal Worship part 1

Effective worship requires self discipline. There are several reasons why that is true.

(1) Personal worship looses much of its effectiveness if it is not done consistently

(2) A second reason why self discipline is required in the matter of personal worship....

It is not a 'flesh pleasing' activity.

3. But there is a third reason why self discipline is required…..Satan will oppose you.

(4) There is a fourth reason why the child of God ought to practice self discipline.

God is a God of order and we are the image bearers of God.

The first thing that should reflect order in the Christian life is the matter of personal worship

This order will be evident in that there will be a designated time and place.

Once you have established a time and a place what should you actually do?

The first thing is that you must always keep in mind that you are coming to worship God.

Secondly....there should be heart preparation.

Assuming that the heart has been prepared....

(1) The first thing that we should do before reading God's word is to pray that God would make Himself known to us through His word.
(2) Is there some precept to give direction to my life?

(3) Is there a promise that I can lay hold of that applies to my present circumstances

(4) In what way does this passage apply to my life?

(5) Is God trying to reconstruct my thinking?
