Crucified with Christ

When Christ died for our sins, He represented us and all the benefits of our salvation were purchased for us by His cross. Chief among those benefits is the gift of the Holy Spirit that gives us new life. The Father and the Son take up residence in us. And the things of Christ are communicated to us by the Holy Spirit such that it is as if we were actually crucified with Christ and no longer have any relation to sin. The result is that we crucify the flesh with its longings and impulses, and we live by the control of the Holy Spirit.
