Christ is set before us as an overcoming man. true he was and is the eternal Son of God:"very God of very God." But He was and remain "the man Christ Jesus." It is knowing Him in this sense as well as knowing sin as "lawlessness" that enables us to correctly abide in Him and thereby "purify ourselves even as he is pure."
