Beautiful Praise

This Psalm calls God's people to sing to the Lord a new song, and to 'play skillfully with a shout of joy.' I think the reason that Presbyterians tend to be not very exuberant in worship is because they believe in the plurality of elders and the right of appeal to a higher body. No, on second thought, that has nothing to do with it. Maybe it's because we believe God's covenant extends not only to us, but to our children, and that He's a covenant keeping God. No-that can't be it. Then it must be because we know that God is a sovereign king, and that He is the one who is responsible for our salvation...He is 'the author and finisher of our faith,' and the one who deserves all our glory and praise, and no one can ever separate us from His love. No, that can't be it...that knowledge would tend to make a person MORE full of praise...MORE LIKELY to shout with joy.
The more I think about it, the more it seems to me that there is really NO GOOD REASON why those who believe in God's sovereignty and majesty and holiness and power and glory should not cry out, like the saints above, 'Worthy is the lamb that was slain, to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.' It looks like we're going to be worshiping God with exuberance, with shouts of joy in heaven. Maybe we should practice a little here, so we are ready for it.
