Authority of the Word in the Church

The supreme authority in Christ's church for all matters of belief and practice is the Word of God alone. Doctrines or practices that arise from men's imaginations must never supplant the authority of the Word. This commitment to Biblical authority was a key contribution of Martin Luther and other Reformers. This stance fueled the Reformation in the early 1,500's, and is still true today.
