God's Work In Circumcision

58

A couple things about God's take on circumcision and uncircumcision.

Circumcision... a mark of the call, conversion and covenant of God that would separate His servants from all others and point them back to a promise of God's redeeming grace. A time when God gave life to a man and his wife whose reproductive life was dead. Circumcision is a message that runs much deeper than something physical that God was doing with Abraham and Sarah, and their dead bodies, to something eternally that must be done to our dead souls that can't have life without a promise of grace that will free us to love and live for God. Both circumcisions (physical and eternal) are given in the same area by which a promise was made to be fruitful and multiply. As it applied to Abraham it was the deadness of his reproduction cycle that God gave life to and through the same area "cut by man" the seed of his descendants would flow. And as it applied to them and us New Testament followers of Christ, it was the circumcision of our dead hearts that have been "cut by Christ" and given life now, that the love of Christ and His life would flow through us to make disciples for His kingdom.

And both circumcisions required the shedding of blood... Abraham's flesh, and even more specifically the Lord Jesus's life and blood, that would remove the curse of the flesh that covered our hearts and kept us from seeing, trusting, loving and finding life in God (Deuteronomy 30:6 ; Romans 8:29 ; Colossians 2:11).

The following are a few illustrated examples of the consequences of uncircumcision that would hinder and cause an impairment or obstacle to:

Loving: Deuteronomy 30:6

Loyalty: Deuteronomy 30:6

Hearing: Jeremia
