Deception of Self-Sufficiency

77

Jesus taught them their true helplessness (John 6:7-9).
e. Their need (John 6:7)
(1) More than 200 pennyworth of bread to pacify the hunger of such a crowd
(2) The value of a penny equals a day's wages (Matthew 20:1-2).
• The self-made man is a figment of one's imagination
• One of the greatest lessons in life is taught here: Man's complete helplessness apart from Almighty God.
(John 15:4-5; 2 Corinthians 3:4)
• The same God with the same promises and the same performance can be found throughout the Old Testament. Joseph is a great example (Genesis 49:22-26)

Isaiah 40:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
• The more one submits and relinquishes control of his life, the greater his sufficiency; he become God sufficient
1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak t hings of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon
