Who Should Children Obey?

*See the end for a note on discipline. We need to obey our parents in the Lord and there are consequences for our bad and good behaviors. What if your parents do not know the Lord or you do not know your parents? We need to obey our parents when they tell us to do something that is not immoral. As long as there is no conflict with what God says. When we obey the Lord, He will send others who will be like parents to us. How can we honor our parents when our parents do not follow or love the Lord? We need to live a life that would make others think that we must have come from great parents, even when they are not. Parents should not exasperate their children. Rules should be few, firm, and clear. Discipline is not a bad thing and we will all serve (be enslaved) to someone or something. The discipline that God ordains should bring us comfort. God places discipline in our lives because He loves us and desires that we live righteous lives. *Note on discipline: Corporal punishment or the threat of corporal punishment is a violation of policy at Wears Valley Ranch. Properly administered corporal punishment can be very beneficial to some children. The Bible is clear that corporal punishment is important in a healthy parent / child relationship; however, our students are not our children, and our students often have histories of emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Therefore we do not allow corporal punishment.
