02. Jacob, Joseph, and Judah

Many sermons have been preached about how Joseph is a type of Christ in the stories in Genesis. But Richard Rohlin explains Levantine law and shows how many of Jacob's sons lost their inheritance. Judah was fourth in line for the inheritance. Many of Joseph's brothers wanted Joseph gone because they saw him as a threat since he was his father's favored son. But it is Judah even more than Joseph who prefigures Christ in the Genesis narrative. Judah has a flawed past but is willing to give up his life in the end in order to save Benjamin -- who really was his enemy in many respects.
